- Blunt or sharp eye injury (sports hit, road accident, fingernail scratch)
- Sudden partial or complete loss of vision or a dark curtain across sight

- Sudden flashes of light or a shower of dark floaters
- Redness, pain, or vision drop after any recent eye surgery
What to do—and what to avoid
For a chemical splash
Rinse the open eye gently with clean drinking water or sterile saline for 15 minutes right away, then travel to the hospital immediately.
For a foreign particle or cut
Do not rub the eye and never try to remove a stuck object with tweezers, cotton buds, or cloth. Shield the eye lightly without pressing on the eyeball.
Avoid home remedies or pharmacy steroid drops
Never put rose water, oil, breast milk, or unprescribed steroid eye drops into an injured or painful eye.
